What a Healthy BBT Chart Should Look Like

A clear guide for understanding ovulation, fertility, and your body's natural rhythms

Why Basal Body Temperature Matters

Your Basal Body Temperature (BBT) is one of the most reliable ways to track ovulation naturally. When charted consistently, it can show clear patterns that indicate hormonal shifts, fertility windows, and potential cycle concerns.

What a Healthy BBT Chart Typically Shows

  • A pre-ovulatory phase with lower temperatures (typically between 97.0°F and 97.7°F)
  • A distinct temperature shift after ovulation (often rising by 0.4°F or more)
  • Consistently elevated temperatures post-ovulation for 12–16 days
  • A gradual decline in temperature before menstruation if conception hasn’t occurred

Everyone's baseline will vary slightly, but the pattern matters more than the exact numbers.

Signs Your BBT Chart May Need a Closer Look

  • Irregular or unclear shifts
  • Short luteal phases (less than 10 days)
  • Multiple peaks or temperature dips post-ovulation
  • Inconsistent wake times or disturbed sleep may also affect accuracy

If you’re unsure about your chart, working with a fertility coach can help you interpret and optimize your cycle.
